👀 Methanol powered barges

Methanol is an ideal fuel for water transportation and national waterways in particular. Cochin Shipyards will build methanol barges and set up JVs with local outfits. In January it will start to build 6 methanol barges for the recently inaugurated NW-1 (Haldia to Varanasi), and engage HDPEL in Howrah, to retrofit methanol engines to 3 diesel barges (@ Rs 2-3cr each). Methanol storage will come up at various locations (see 1).
👀 Ethanol distillers subsidy

Govt is serious about increasing the supply of ethanol for blending in petrol. It has upped the soft loans for ethanol production by Rs 7,400cr, as its earlier announcement of Rs 6000cr subsidy to sugar mills had received an overwhelming response. Now everyone who has applied will be covered! Cabinet may also approve soft loans for grain-based ethanol production.
