DATED 15/07/17
Where will Nitish Kumar stand now?
Will NDA defeat the Mahagathbandhan in 2019? If JDU supporters are kept happy with prohibition, then why worry! Certainly RJD & Congressi voters will fully back the MG—they don't expect straight dealing from the leadership and will take whatever, be it bribery, scams, criminality, immaturity, sleaze or anything for that matter. What Nitish Kumar does will depend on self-interest. But if power can be gotten by siding from either alliance, what matters then is the company you keep.
New BJP Govt in UP plans a make-over of eastern UP so comparisons between CM Yogi and CM Nitish Kumar will be made. UP govt is offering many goodies like crackdown on crime, industry incentives, tourism, primary education, tele-health, teaching hospitals, lakhs of new houses, sanitation, smart city infra, airports, metro-rails, orbital roads, Lucknow-Ballia e-way, NH upgrades, doubling of railway lines, gas pipeline, fertilizer plants, etc
UPDATE 26/07/17
Nitish Kumar has resigned as CM
NK has walked out of MG. What next? Choices are to support the grouping led by RJD or try with NDA. Alliance parties want and pray for the first option! But how likely is it, that JDU will dump NK for the likes of Lalu & sons? So, JDU-NDA alliance is what NK has in mind.
New JDU-NDA bandhan
Law and order is a top priority for the new govt—as serious crime has jumped in 2013 (185k v 160k in 2012) and again in first half of 2017 (up 20% from 2013 or 15% from high of 2015).
UPDATE 30/07/17
JDU brings NDA close to Rajya Sabha majority
NDA strategists are close to achieving a near majority in the Upper House (121/245) thanks to JDU's 10 members. It has a working arrangement with major parties from TN, erstwhile AP and Odisha. If NDA carries the support of all JDU members and outside parties, it can enact some radical changes including labour and land reforms.
UPDATE 12/08/17
JDU formally invited to join Centre
Despite dissent and probable split in JDU, Union NDA govt has offered JDU an invite to join it at the Centre. Nitish has asked for a largesse and opposition has demanded BJP fulfills its pre-poll promise, even though BJP had stood alone and lost that election!! No tension since there is something big in the works.
UPDATE 26/8/2017
Scams galore
Meanwhile, it has not taken long for Nitish to call out high level scams involving govt monies. Apparently there are scams everywhere — just one incidence is Rs 300cr. Another for 700cr to 1000cr. Bihar govt decides to refer it to CBI.

- Centre has so far approved only modest Rs 1,900 cr falling under Five year plans, but there is indication that the special package of Rs 1.25 lakh crore (announced by PM Modi in 8/15) will finally get implemented.
Approved spending thus far:
▬ Ongoing: rail-cum-road across Ganga at Digha (Patna)
▬ 9 projects: NH project & 8 electricity distribution projects (removing transmission constraints between N & S Bihar, strengthening sub-transmissions, electrification of villages & a new sub-station).
