SQUADRON STRENGTH OF INDIAN AIRFORCE over time

India needs massive new procurement of fighter aircraft over the next 8-10 years — to make up for the significant deficiency in squadron strength. Domestic Tejas production is strategically important and substitutes for expensive imports. Nevertheless, imports of top-notch fighters like Rafale & FGFA are also essential to the IAF. New-gen platforms like AMCA (manned) and unmanned platforms (ideal for monitoring borders and first response) can, should and are being developed. (Large procurement of India's own Light Combat Helicopters will help in defending mountainous N/ NE India).
