- Relatively small sums of money are involved (Rs 305cr). It is a small price to pay to connect NE waterways to Rest of India waterways. It also offers a much shorter route and frees up the "Chicken Neck".

Dredging increases flow of water through the main river channel, thus offering some mitigation to flooding, in Assam, WB and Bihar
REPLY Oct 21, 2017 - Cost of dredger, tug boat and houseboat is Rs 35-40 cr in toto. A small number of people (entrepreneurs) can undertake maintenance dredging through the year. Survey vessel can operate as a tourist vessel.
REPLY Oct 22, 2017 - Waterways are the most economic form of overland transport. Bangladesh waterways substantially increases the length of usable waterways.Trade with Bangladesh can also use these waterways — with cost savings to both sides.
REPLY Oct 22, 2017 - Dredging will clear these bottlenecks, which are low points during the dry season. Navigable depth of 2.7 - 3.0 m allows large cargo vessels to operate on waterways.
